Week 81 Agen and Bordeaux

Hello les gens,

This was another great week in Agen and all is going very well. I traveled to Bordeaux for an exchange and then district meeting. We also had a great time teaching people in Agen and found a new family that we are going to teach. When I was in Bordeaux  I was with Frère Garside who was in the MTC with me. We had a great time together and taught this Catholic guy in a big Catholic church. That was definitely a first. I read in the rules a few days after that we can't do that. Whoops. 

 

Miracle of the week: one of the big events of the week was an activity that we put on at the church. The activity was about temples because that is something we are very exited to talk about because there is a temple being built in Paris. We spent a lot of time planning the activity and getting as many people to come as possible. We had a great turn out and got some kids to come that we have been working with. Kim and Nasser also came and then came to church again yesterday. We started off the activity with some games that were a lot of fun and then we shared a thought about temples. We showed some videos including the video of President Monson announcing the Paris Temple. After we all ate crepes. We made about 30 before but they were all gone in a few seconds so we had to hurry and make more. We also tried to make some with this gluten free flower that turned out more like pancakes but ca va. Everyone seemed to have a great time!

So when we were getting ready for the activity we went to this convenience store. I noticed the lady in front of us was buying only two things; snails and Roquefort cheese. Elder Wilson and I were talking about how it is almost impossible to buy either of those things it the US and definitely not at a little convenience store. That is France for you.

Week 80 Agen and Bordeaux

Bonjour!

I just finished doing an interview with the mission president on Skype! We have a general authority visiting our mission so president Brown will not have time to do interviews with us like normal but did them on Skype this time. It was a little different but pretty good. I really like president Brown and his wife. They are doing a great job here.

 

They gave us a little shout out in the weekly news letter that goes out to all the missionaries. I will explain. So last week, at the conference for the new missionaries, President Brown had the idea that  it would be good if we could figure out a way to get people's names engraved on a Book of Mormon that we give them. This way the  book will have a more personal meaning to them. Then he gave the challenge to us to try to see if we could do this and said once you have a Book of Mormon in your hands with your ami's name on it call me. So last Monday we found an engraver and did it. The guy was very nice and said that he would do it for free. When we got the books we told president. We also wrote our testimonies in the books and gave them to Kim and Nasser on Saturday. They where very happy to get them. We are also gong to do this with our ami Nicolas. I think I learned from all this how important the Book of Mormon is. It is really the most valuable thing that anyone can have and can do so much for us if we read it, pray about it, and apply what we learn from the Holy Ghost.
 

 
 

This week we also went to Bordeaux again for a Missionary meeting. It was fun to see some people that I have not seen in a long time. We also went to Mezin and visited the Somsons. We did a family home evening with them and then we went with Mr. Somson and his little girl to a community garden/orchard and picked a bunch of grapes, apples, and prunes. I think I have already talked about how Agen in famous for prunes. They are so good!

 

Miracle of the week: This week Kim accepted to be baptized! She has a long ways to go but they are very exited. We had a new member move in and the first thing she said to him was, "I am going to get baptized soon!"

Week 79 Agen and Lyon, France

Bonjour!

I hope you all had a great week. This week was great for me. It was a
little different than normal because we went on a big trip to Lyon.
The train ride to get there is 5 hours so that took a good part of the
day on Wednesday and Saturday. We went to Lyon for a conference with
the newer missionaries. I did the same thing
about a year ago. We talked about a lot of things but the main message
was having faith and overcoming fears. It was fun to see a lot of
other missionaries that I got to know last month when we went to Lyon.
I also got to see my old companions, Elder Taylor and Elder Whiting who are
both serving in the office. It was fun to catch up with them. I can't
remember if I said this before but when Elder Whiting and I were
companions we taught this lady named Joelle who is now baptized so it
was fun to talk about that with him.

Miracle of the week- Our investigator Kim has been sick for the last
two weeks and we have been praying for her a lot. Then earlier this
week she called us and said she is all better. It was great to see this answer to out prayers.

Week 78, Agen, France

I am still here and will be for another six weeks of summer! I am
very happy to be staying and I know that there is some work the
Lord wants me to do here. I will continue with my companion, Elder
Wilson, which I am very exited about too. We will be going to a
conference in Lyon next week for all of the newer missionaries. I am
very exited but it will be a long train ride. 

This week was pretty good. I attempted to be a little more bold than normal
because I thought I might be leaving so I wanted to leave on a good note. Now I
will be able to profit from all of that for the next few weeks. I have
a feeling that a lot of good is going to happen this next month.
I think being bold is one thing I have improved on recently.
It is hard not to  be bold though when we are talking to people about
the temple and the important things we do there.
Last p day we went to this bridge that holds a canal over a big
river! It is just outside if Agen but I had never bothered to walk
there until last week. Is was really cool because you could walk
alongside the canal as you went over the bridge. Then on the other
side there were the locks that boats enter into and the water goes
down so the boats could go down a level without the canal being on
a hill. I will have to send some pictures next week.

Miracle of the week - I am staying in Agen!
On Saturday we had a word activity to clean the church. It was just
us, Fr. Cazoux , Sr. Somson and her daughter. Is was fun to spend time
with them. After we had a nice meal with  baguettes and cheese.

FFF of he week - French people love yogurt!

Week 77, Agen France

Bonjour les Amis,

Wow another great week just flew by! So I sent some pictures of a
really old looking church and a fountain. Let me explain. Last Monday
our ami Mr. Lecomts called us and was like, "Do you guys have some time
this evening?" We said we did and he said that he wanted to take us to
this special place that he liked to go to with his family. It
was P day so we said, "why not" and we went to his house and then he
drove us really far out into the country to this little chapel that
was in the middle of a field.  Apparently this chapel was built 800
years ago. What was even more exiting was the fountain that was right
next to it. According to Mr. Lecomte this fountain is even older than
the chapel and is able to heal people. There is a story where
Charlemagne actually came to this very fountain and drank out of it to
be healed. Charlemagne is a pretty big deal in French history so that
makes this spot kind of important. There were a lot of people there at this little fountain in
the middle of nowhere to prove my point. It was fun to
see it and spend some time with Mr. Lecompe. I got pressured into
drinking some of the water and my companion got a video that I'll have to send.
On Friday we went to Mezin. It was Elder Wilsons first time there. We took our bikes
with us on the bus and then rode our bikes to another town called
Reaup to find a member. The bike ride there was
very beautiful and reminded me a lot of Oregon. It was fun to go on a
good bike ride. We were not able to go to the guys house but we
found out where he lives so next time we can get there. We talked to
some people who were sitting outside of the town store and asked
them about the town. The town is literally a store, a government
building and a really old church. There are apparently 300 people who
live in the town but they are all in the country.
On Sunday I gave a talk in church. President Zambo said to talk about
any of the things we teach as missionaries so I talked about the
restoration. Then I talked about how it applies to us, I am grateful to
live in this period of time on the earth when we can enjoy all the blessings of the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. Frère Zambo said I did good and was talking to me about it for a long time
after the meeting.

Miracle of the week - We had some time before we needed to go home one
day and so we desired to go to this park. We met a guy who was
really nice but he said he was atheist. After talking to him for a
little while we took his number and left to go home. We were walking
a little fast to get home on time and then about five minuets later
we heard from of in a distance "Wilson!" We turned around and there was this
same man running after us. He caught up to us and said that he forgot that
he changed phones and had given us the wrong number. Once he realized
he turned around and tried to catch up with us. This was a surprise coming from an atheist.
